Property of unknown value was lost at St. Brigid’s Girls’ High School Kiminini in Trans Nzoia County, following a fire incident that burnt a section of a two-floors dormitory Tuesday night.

Kiminini Deputy County Commissioner Henry Metto told K24 digital that the cause of the night inferno has not been established.

The administrator said that no students was injured since all the learners were in their classrooms studying.

“All the girls are safe. We shall do investigations to find out the real cause of fire. I want to assure parents that the students are safe, so is the school,” Metto said.

The fire was contained some minutes before midnight following quick response from the Trans Nzoia fire department and other emergency response teams.

“The response from the fire department, the police and other stakeholders was very effective and efficient,” he said.

The Girls’ National school Principal Inviolelata Lukorito said an assessment will be done to determine the cause of fire and the magnitude of damage.

“As much as some our girls lost their belongings, we’re happy that all of them are safe, we shall do an assessment on this incident,” Lukorito said.

On her part, Trans Nzoia County Director of Education Dr. Salome Maina told the girls not to panic and should instead concentrate on their studies.

“We are all behind you as the County department of education. Forget what is behind you and focus on your studies to keep your school as the County Center of excellence,” Maina told the girls.

Security agencies together with officers from the ministry of public works and Kenya Power are today expected to visit the school to do an assessment.
