Ngunjiri Wambugu sends a message after Uhuru and Ruto meet at State House

By , August 1, 2025

Former Nyeri Town MP and an immediate ally of Rigathi Gachagua, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has said that former President Uhuru Kenyatta will not sit down and watch someone from Mt Kenya or outside Mt Kenya isolate the region from the rest of Kenya.

Taking to his Facebook page on Friday, August 1, 2025, shortly after Uhuru Kenyatta, his successor, and other foreign dignitaries held an EAC and SADC meeting at State House, Nairobi to discuss the DRC situation, Wambugu shared his thoughts.

He said there is no way Uhuru will support or remain silent when attempts are made to lock out Mt Kenya from national conversations.

The Mt Kenya Region Unity

In the short but powerful message, Wambugu wrote that it does not matter whether the isolator is from within or without. What matters, he said, is that Mt Kenya will not accept being boxed out of Kenya’s national framework.

According to him, Uhuru is fully aware of the region’s central role in the country and would never tolerate any agenda that seeks to divide or weaken that position.

His remarks come at a time when photos of President William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta together at State House, Nairobi, went viral on social media, stirring speculation over the current state of political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wambugu versus Gachagua rivalry deepens

Political watchers were also quick to note that this was not the first time Wambugu was firing political missiles at his former boss, Rigathi Gachagua. The two have remained political enemies ever since Gachagua’s impeachment. Before his fallout with Gachagua, Wambugu worked in the office of the Deputy President as one of his key advisors.

Recently, Wambugu has consistently criticised Gachagua’s political moves and has not missed any chance to question the impeached DP’s conduct and agenda for the Mt Kenya region.

Signs of shifting political winds

With Mt Kenya now appearing to lean more toward Uhuru Kenyatta and others who seem to be rallying behind former CS Fred Matiang’i, observers say the political climate is shifting. Wambugu’s post appears to signal a brewing realignment, one that could shape the road to 2027.
