Phanice Chemutai Juma is recuperating at Kitale County Referral Hospital following an incident where a Kitale based businessman shot her on the lower left abdomen at Kiminini market last night.
According to Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Fredrick Ochieng’, Ken Muyundo a businessman in the hospitality industry who is also a licensed firearm holder shot Chemutai shortly after meeting her on suspicion that the lady was Caroline Chemutai Kangogo a police officer linked to the murder of constable John Ongweno in Nakuru and businessman Peter Ndwiga Njiru in Juja.
“Ken Muyundo met the lady sometimes back and exchanged contacts. The lady has been calling him insisting that they should meet. Yesterday at around 9:30 pm, Ken met her and out of panic, he shot her on the lower left abdomen leaving her with injuries” Ochieng’ said.
It was later discovered that the victim of the shooting incident is not Caroline Kangogo. Chemutai was rushed to Kitale County Referral Hospital and admitted.
The county police boss said that the suspect has been disarmed pending investigations.
“The suspect is in our custody helping us with investigations. We will later arraign him in court and charge him for attempted murder,” Ochieng’ added.
Ocheing’ further cautioned all licensed firearm holders not to use their lethal weapons recklessly and urged them to report any person suspected to be Kangogo.
“If you are a licensed firearm holder, despite the fact that Chemutai is said to be dangerous. It does not mean you shoot any lady by the name Chemutai,” Ochieng’ argued.
