Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has apologised to the Catholic Church over the fight which happened last Sunday.

Ndindi said that he regrets the incident and promised never to fight in church again.

Speaking at ACK St. Mark Igwe Church in Gitui, Kiharu where he graced a fundraiser, the MP said that he never intended to disrupt the service and things happened very fast.

“I take this opportunity to apologise to the Catholic church for that incident and I highly regret that it happened,” he said.

The Tanga Tanga-allied MP also apologised on behalf of other politicians who conducted themselves inappropriately in the church.

“It’s a lesson well learnt and its high time we as leaders hold the church in high regard because before we became politicians we are Christians,” he said.

Ndindi was caught up in a scuffle with Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda, whom he accused of organising a fundraiser in his constituency without seeking his approval.

The church fight temporarily halted church service as the MPs bickered but police officers intervened.

The incident led to Nyoro’s arrest on Monday night but he was released without any charges pressed against him.

“The matter has been giving me sleepless nights because I have never found myself in such a situation ” he said.

In wake of the incident, Murang’a Catholic Diocesan Bishop Maria Wainaina banned political functions in Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties which are under his jurisdiction.

The bishop cancelled all pending invitations to political leaders and demanded an apology from the leaders involved in the Gitui Catholic Church fight.

“The politicians have turned churches into an arena to settle scores and this is totally unacceptable,” said the bishop.
