Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has confirmed that detailed arrangements have been made to receive activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo following their release from Ugandan custody.

The two were abducted in Uganda on October 1 while attending a political rally organised by opposition leader Bobi Wine, sparking widespread concern among human rights defenders and civil society across East Africa.

In a post on X on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Njiru outlined the reception plans, stating that the plane carrying the activists is scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 1 pm.

“Senator Maanzo has confirmed this morning to have spoken to the two abductees, and he further confirms that the plane carrying the two is scheduled to touch ground at JKIA at 1 pm today. We shall be there to receive them,” he wrote.

Njiru also acknowledged the critical role played by Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who led the negotiations that secured their release.

The lawyer noted that the senator had spoken with Njagi and Oyoo ahead of their departure from Uganda, providing reassurance and confirming flight details.

“Thank you, Senator Maanzo, for leading our legal team in the successful negotiations that have led to the release of Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo,” Njiru said.

The release was confirmed earlier in the morning of Saturday, November 8, 2025, by Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing’oei, who stated that Njagi and Oyoo had been formally handed over to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Joash Maangi.

The two were then escorted to the Busia border town, where they were received by Busia County Commissioner Chaunga Mwachaunga.

“Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo are free and on Kenyan territory. They were escorted by officials from the Ugandan government and received by the Busia County Commissioner,” he said.

Sing’oei added that the government was “deeply grateful for the efforts by different actors who made this outcome possible” and promised more details would follow.

This development comes after 38 days of enforced disappearance, a period that prompted condemnation from regional human rights organisations and advocacy from civil society groups.
