Natembeya pledges to provide buses to ferry Trans-Nzoia mourners to Bondo for Raila’s burial

While the rest of Kenyans are mourning the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has revealed that his administration will ferry some residents to Bondo to witness Raila’s burial on Sunday.
Addressing mourners at Kitale town CBD after opening Raila’s condolence book on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Natembeya called on Trans Nzoia residents to show up and sign the condolences book.

At the time, Natembeya announced that whoever wants to travel to Bondo ahead of Sunday’s event, the county will ensure a safe facilitation of transport to Bondo in Siaya County.
“The condolence book is here; please come and sign. For those who want to attend Odinga’s burial, we will provide buses to ferry you to Bondo so that you can pay your last respects to our father of democracy and devolution,” the governor said.
Natembeya was forced to cancel three public rallies in Kakamega and Busia counties. The rallies were scheduled to begin on Thursday, 16 September 2025, at Malava, where he was expected to campaign for DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako.

The former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner further said that the death of Raila, who fought for the second liberation of Kenya, marks the beginning of the fight for liberation of Kenya from state capture. He urged Kenyans to emulate Odinga’s fighting spirit.
“The death of Raila marks the darkest hour in the Republic of Kenya. But the struggle for the freedom of Kenya will not be buried with Raila. Other patriotic Kenyans must come out and stand for what is right and constitutional,” he appealed to Kenyans.
The county boss further announced that he will reciprocate Raila’s generosity by donating bulls to the Odinga’s family on Saturday, 18 September, 2025.
The self-declared opposition leader said his bulls will serve as payback for the bulls Raila donated to the family of the late eighth Vice President, Michael Kijana Wamalwa, who passed on in 2003.
Uasin Gishu residents’ plea
Meanwhile, a section of Uasin Gishu residents have called on the Uasin Gishu County government to facilitate transport for them to attend the burial of Raila Odinga in Bondo on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, October 16, 2025, the residents said that since the ceremony is a state function, the county government should extend its support to locals who wish to pay their last respects to the late opposition leader.
“We also want to stand with the rest of Kenyans and show our support to Raila during his final send-off. The county should make proper arrangements for us to travel to Bondo,” Caudencia Tanui said.
