Narok police confirm arrest of man in viral assault on pregnant woman

Police have confirmed the arrest of a man seen assaulting a pregnant woman in a viral video, while several other suspects remain at large, following widespread outrage online.
Narok Central Sub-County Police Commander John Momanyi, speaking on Friday, September 26, 2025, said the person of interest is in police custody and will be taken to court once investigations are complete.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, shows a young pregnant woman, identified as Lepeita, being brutally attacked by three men armed with thin sticks in Nkareta, Narok North.
The footage captured the victim writhing on the ground in pain as her mother pleaded with the assailants to stop, but her appeals went ignored. The attackers, dressed in traditional Maasai shukas, continued to beat her mercilessly, leaving her visibly injured.
Elseshere, four persons of interest have been arrested over the brutal killing of a woman in Kigumo.
Commander Momanyi said authorities acted swiftly after receiving information about the assault.
“It is true that we received information regarding the assault case. Once we got the report, we immediately deployed our officers. At this time, the victim has been rescued, is safe, and has been taken to the hospital to receive treatment,” the commander said.
He confirmed that a person of interest has been apprehended and is in custody, while police continue to hunt for the other accomplices.
“We currently have one person of interest in custody; he is under our supervision and is being prepared to be taken to court. The others who were involved are still at large, and we are actively searching for them. Once apprehended, we will ensure that all of them face justice,” Momanyi added.

The officer further explained that collaboration with local administrative officers, including chiefs, the Deputy County Commissioner, and the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), was key in locating and rescuing the victim.
He also called on the public to report such incidents promptly to authorities to ensure swift intervention.
“I want to emphasise that the victim has received medical care and is stable. I cannot disclose her exact location or age, but she is an adult mother of two. When we received the information, we worked closely with local administrative officers, including chiefs, the Deputy County Commissioner, and the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), which helped us locate the victim,” he said.
“I want to urge the public that whenever incidents like this occur, it is important to share information with government officers, whether it is a local chief or another authority, so that justice can be delivered promptly,” he added.
Lepeita, described by Momanyi as a mother of two, is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The National Police Service (NPS) hours after Momanyi’s presser also condemned the violent assault.
