Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans to be in their best behaviour during the CHAN matches set to begin on August 3, 2025.

Kenya will be hosting the matches jointly with Tanzania and Uganda in the tournament that will bring together national football teams from across the continent of Africa.

Speaking at the Kasarani Stadium on Monday, July 14, 2025, Murkomen urged Kenyans to be courteous to the visitors who are expected to stream into the country in their droves since the government lifted visa requirements for Kenya.

Visitors expected in the country

“For Kenyans, let us be at our best behaviour because we are having visitors around.  In any family, when visitors come home, you must be at your best behaviour. So, let us ensure that this time around, our visitors feel at home,” Murkomen said.

“I want to ask Kenyans also to be very courteous to our visitors. Many people will be in town, will miss directions and would want to be guided and would also want to know the best places to visit in the country. Please let us be very courteous to our visitors,” he observed.

“That is who we are as Kenyans, except for very small instances, we are always very courteous, very welcoming and very hospitable people.”

During his speech, Murkomen equally revealed that elaborate security measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of VIP and regular sports visitors in the country right from the airport, hotel rooms, streets, tourist sites and stadia.

“We want to assure the country that we have put in place elaborate security measures to ensure that our visitors arrive at the airport properly,” Murkomen noted.

Airport security

“They (visitors) are going to be facilitated at the airport; as you all know, all African countries have an exemption from Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA). Entrance into the country does not require any kind of visa, so we are going to have as many visitors as possible being facilitated throughout our airport.”

“We have also put security measures at the airport to ensure that the visitors are properly screened and the right people are entering our country,” he added.

The interior CS equally noted that the CHAN visitors from all over the continent would be protected in the streets and their hotels.
