Leaders allied to the government have dismissed claims that the Mt Kenya region has been neglected, saying that by 2027, residents of the area will be strong supporters of President William Ruto’s administration.

Led by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, and his Othaya counterpart Wambugu Wainaina, on November 12, 2025, the leaders said the resumption of stalled infrastructure projects in the central region is a clear indication that 70 per cent of the President’s promises will have been fulfilled by 2027.

“The revival of infrastructure projects that had stalled in this region is a clear indication that the government has not forgotten its people in this region. We may not promise that we shall have achieved 100 per cent by 2027, but 70 per cent of the President’s promises will have been fulfilled,” Senator Wamatinga said.

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina urged his constituents to allow him to stay in the government to enable him to get more resources for his people.

‎”This road had stalled for some time, but its construction has now fully resumed. The reason it has taken so long is that we had a low budget of Ksh50 million, which was not enough, but we lobbied the president because his office has such funds. That is why I’m urging you to allow me to stay in the government in order to be able to lobby for development projects,” he said.

The leaders also criticised the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, for his claims that President Ruto’s government has sidelined the central region.

“It is not true that the Mt Kenya region has been abandoned. Several development projects, including road construction, markets and stadiums, are ongoing,” said Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina.

They were speaking in Mbiriri, Kieni Constituency, where they were inspecting the construction of the 65-kilometre Tagwa–Kabaru–Munyu road, which had previously stalled but has now resumed.
