Msambweni MP seeks law forcing investors to share profit with communities

Msambweni Member of Parliament Feisal Bader has announced plans to table a motion in Parliament that will compel investors to channel part of their profits into community development projects.

Speaking during the FKF–Kentaste Beach Soccer finals at Kongo Beach in Diani, Kwale County, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Bader said investors should be legally bound to allocate between one and two per cent of their annual earnings to benefit host communities.

He noted that while investors reap massive returns from local resources, they often fail to give back.

“As a lawmaker, I will mobilise my colleagues to support a bill that forces investors to contribute directly to the communities they profit from,” Bader said. He added that leaving corporate social responsibility to goodwill alone has failed.

The MP criticised organisations that have been operating in the region for years without investing in education, healthcare, or infrastructure. He said jobs and tax payments are important, but insufficient in addressing community challenges.

“Communities should also feel the presence of investors through various initiatives such as education sponsorships, health programs, and sports development,” he emphasised.

As Bader seeks to compel investors to channel part of their profits into community development projects, Murang’a County unveiled a package of incentives to attract investors.

Support local talents

Bader called on investors to go beyond profit-making and nurture young people’s talents. He highlighted sports, arts, and youth empowerment as areas that require more funding.

“Supporting local talents is a direct investment in the future,” he said, adding that opportunities for youth reduce crime and drug abuse while encouraging hope and productivity.

According to Bader, active community participation by investors fosters trust, peace, and goodwill.

He said this approach is not mere charity but a sustainable way of doing business that ensures locals create a supportive environment where investors can thrive.

The legislator further urged investors to back beach soccer, which he described as a fast-growing sport with huge potential to boost tourism and create new economic opportunities along the Coast.
