More details emerge over killing of six by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Lamu

More details have emerged on what transpired on Sunday night in Lamu where six people were killed.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, details of how the attackers ended the lives of the six have emerged.

The report was made at Kibaoni, Lamu County by Thomas Kimuhu Karanja who is a member of Nyumba Kumi within Witho village.

“He reported that there was an attack within Witho shopping centre located about 8 kilometres from the station. A joint security team visited the scene,” the report read in part.

The names of the casualties were revealed as follows; J.M, P.M, M.W, P.M and F.K.

J.M was a village elder who was beheaded by the suspects before his house was also torched. F.K who had disappeared on January 2 was found along the road within Witho Shopping centre and his head had gunshot wounds.

At Murimi Mangwe den, four other male bodies were burnt beyond recognition.

They were identified as P.M, M.W and P.M and all their hands were tied from behind.

Police also revealed that several houses were torched within the locality and property of unknown value burnt.

The scene was processed where one spent cartridge was recovered.

“The bodies moved to Mpeketoni Sub- County hospital morgue pending identification and autopsy,” the report further revealed.

Police say that the motive of the attack is yet to be established and progress reports will follow.

The matter is currently being investigated by sleuths attached to Mpeketoni Police Station.

The attack has also been condemned by Lamu County Senator Anwar Loitiptip.

In a statement sent to media houses, Loitiptip regretted that the killings were orchestrated against innocent individuals who have lived in peace.
