Monday blackout to hit parts of 4 counties
Kenya Power has announced a planned temporary blackout expected to affect parts of four counties on Monday, August 11, 2025.
In an advisory released on Sunday, August 10, 2025, on X account, the utility company attributed the power outage to routine network maintenance.

In Bomet County, the blackout will affect Kapkoros and the surrounding areas. The outage is scheduled to run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Areas to be affected include Tirgaga Tea Factory, Kapkoros Tea Factory, Ndaraweta Tea Factory, Ndaraweta Technical, Aisaik Secondary School, Bondet Market, Kapkoros Market, Mataima Market, Teganga, Singorwet and nearby customers.
In Nandi County, the blackout will affect Lessos Town, Sochoi and Lolduga. The power outage will begin at 9:30 am and end at 5:00 pm. Areas set to be affected include Lessos Town, Lake Victoria Water Board, Sochoi Boys, Sochoi Girls, Koisagat Primary School, Lolduga Primary School, Sigilai Polytechnic, Barekeiywo Village, Kapnyemis Secondary School and surrounding customers.
Nyeri County will also experience the planned outage in the areas of Kiamwathi and Giakanja. The blackout will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected places include Ruring’u Stadium, Redcourt, Classic, Chorong’i Coffee Factory, Muberethi, Giakanja Market, Giakanja Secondary School, Giakanja Coffee Factory, Kiunyu, Kahigaini, Chief’s Area, Ithenguri, Kigwandi Coffee Factory, Karurumo Market, Ikumbo and nearby customers.
In Meru County, the outage will affect Kaithe, Githongo and Mpuri from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas that will be without electricity include Kaithe, Bible Baptist, Kinoru Minors, Chief Ikunyua, Irinda, Kirogine, Ntakira, Kianjuri Coffee Factory, Kianjuri Dispensary, Kainginyo Market, Kainginyo Boarding, Riiji Coffee Factory, Kinjo Market, Kinjo Secondary School, Kianthimbi, Hydro PSP, the whole of Mpuri, Kianthumbi, Katheri Market, Kijijone, Kathiranga Market, Kathiranga Dispensary, Githongo Tea Factory, St. Theresas Primary School, St. Theresas Secondary School, Githongo Market, Karugwa, Gancheke, Kibaranyaki Dispensary, Gikuune, Muli, Muruugi Primary School, St. Karoli Lwanga, Katheri Boys, Katheri Girls and surrounding customers.
