Mohammed Ali slams Mombasa leaders for empty promises and PR stunts
By William Muthama, August 12, 2025Nyali Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammed Ali has taken a strong stance against Mombasa’s political leadership, urging them to step aside if they fail to deliver meaningful development to the people.
In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Ali condemned years of empty promises and political posturing, saying residents have endured chronic problems like water shortages, broken infrastructure, uncollected garbage, and rampant youth drug abuse across Old Town, Mvita, Jomvu, Changamwe, Likoni, and Kisauni.
“Three years is how long Mombasa residents have waited for real change, yet leaders continue with empty PR stunts and unrealised development ideas,” he said.

He also noted that before the current governor, Abdulswamad Shariff, residents waited ten long years for former Governor Hassan Ali Joho to deliver on his development vision, which he failed to do.
“Mombasa is not broke; it is being looted. It is not failing; it is being betrayed,” he stated.
Ali further called out performative politics and handouts, saying the people of Mombasa are “tired of excuses” and “tired of leaders serving poses instead of the people.”
He challenged those in leadership who cannot deliver to “have the decency to step aside for those who can.”
The MP also addressed his long exclusion from regional Coast leaders’ meetings, saying he is now ready to engage directly with Mombasa residents rather than “self-proclaimed small men who want to be worshipped.”
“The time for talk is over. Show us action, or admit you have failed. Mombasa deserves better, and with God by our side, we can actualise this!” Ali declared.
The remarks come amid growing political tensions in Mombasa, where Ali has distanced himself from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, vowing to snub upcoming grassroots elections over concerns of internal interference.
