Suba North Member of Parliament (MP) and Minority Whip at the National Assembly Millie Odhiambo has called on Kenyans to do some soul searching following insensitive reactions to the death of Beatrice Elachi’s son, Elvis Namenya.

Addressing mourners during Namenya’s burial ceremony conducted in Narok County on Saturday, March 29, 2025, Millie underscored the need for a thorough soul searching asserting that so many young people were being consumed by anger and bitterness.

She went on to express disappointment saying it was unjust for the youth to mock Elachi over her son’s death, terming the behavior as inhuman.

The outspoken lawmaker then advised that leaders should start having talks with he citizens, she further explained that the mockery of deaths is a disturbing trend that would destroy the nation.

“I want to ask that as a country, we need to do some soul searching, we have very angry youth; I don’t know what is going on in this country but we need serious soul searching. When we have lost utu and we do not feel when somebody has lost a loved one.

“It does not matter the reason, or the justification; and perhaps it is time, I don’t know in what format but we need to start talking to each other and stop talking at one another, and stop pointing fingers,” she stated.

Additionally, Millie emphasized that the country needs to be united in healing to let go of the bitterness ailing the country.

She particularly addressed her colleagues in the National Assembly stating that it is time to prioritize the issues bedeviling the youth and tackle them to resolve the differences and make the country a better place.

“We need a moment to heal the nation because if we don’t heal the nation, we will be tearing this country, and it is the country for all generations. It is good that the parliament is opening, may we prioritize that we talk about what is bedeviling us as a country, why there are so many bitter and angry people especially young people,” she added.

Namenya’s death

Elvis died after a road accident on March 25, 2025.

Elachi revealed that he succumbed to serious head injuries while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at the AAR Hospital.

“So in that, his brain now just moved and came out from its lobes and that’s what succumbed him,” Elachi detailed, vividly describing the devastating incident.

Prior to the unfortunate incident that claimed his life, Elvis had left home to run errands in Kasarani. His vehicle crashed into guardrails along Thika Road after a tyre burst.
