Millie Odhiambo to Ruto: We believe Raila beat you in 2022

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has reminded President William Ruto that he lost to Raila Odinga in the 2022 poll.
Speaking on Friday, August 8, 2025, during the funeral of veteran politico Phoebe Asiyo in Rachuonyo, Homa Bay County, Millie said that despite the fierce competition between the two leaders, their recent collaboration is a positive step for Kenya’s future.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank His Excellency, working together with Hon Raila Odinga. You have done something that people may not appreciate now, but they will shortly,” Millie said. “You and Baba have done an excellent thing.”
She acknowledged the challenges involved, noting that it was not easy for the political rivals to unite after a hard-fought election.
“It is not easy because we competed against you, and we believed we won against you, but to take the country forward, we must come and reason together,” she added.

Post-election violence victims’ compensation
Millie Odhiambo also praised President Ruto for constituting a special team to compensate victims of post-election violence and other related issues, calling it a welcome move toward healing and reconciliation.
“This morning I was happy to see that you have constituted a team to compensate victims of post-election violence and similar things,” she said.
Her remarks come as Kenya continues to deal with the aftermath of political tensions and social divisions that followed the 2022 general election.
The government’s efforts to address grievances and promote unity are seen as key to building lasting peace.
Millie’s call for cooperation between President Ruto and Raila Odinga highlights the need for political maturity and collaboration to ensure national progress.
She urged Kenyans to appreciate the significance of the partnership, which aims to prioritise the country’s well-being over individual ambitions.
The ongoing dialogue and joint initiatives between the two leaders have been widely regarded as steps toward fostering national cohesion and stability amid Kenya’s complex political landscape.
