Police in Migori County on Thursday, August 19 arrested a man who allegedly hacked his disabled son to death.
The suspect is accused of committing the heinous act on Tuesday, August 17 where he is said to have picked a machete and attacked the minor who is aged 10 years.
Locals who spoke to K24 Digital said that the boy died on the spot which angered neighbours who wanted to lynch the man.
Caleb Otieno, said that he was in his house taking porridge when he heard locals shouting as they threatened to end the life of the suspect.
“When I walked out of the house, I went straight to where the noise was coming from only to find him being beaten,” Otieno said.
Another local, Mary Achieng said that the suspect was saved from the angry mob that wanted to lynch him by police officers who stormed the scene and stopped them.
She said that the suspect was known for mistreating the young boy and had on a number of occasions warned against it.
“We never knew that this matter would end up in such a way. We had hoped that things would be okay with time since he was known to be having bad blood with his son,” said Achieng.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Kehancha Police Station where he is being grilled by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Already, police have launched investigations into the matter and have so far recorded statements from a number of people.
Mark Wanjala who is the Migori County Police Commander told K24 Digital that police were yet to find out what was the reason the suspect decided to attack and kill his son.
“Police officers are still investigating the matter and the main reason why he decided to kill his son remains unknown,” he said.
