Methu reveals major gap in Wanga’s speech, condemning Kahiga for celebrating Raila’s death
By David Nthua, October 22, 2025Nyandarua Senator John Methu has criticised Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga for dragging former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua into her remarks condemning Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Through his X handle on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Methu said Wanga’s speech had focused too much on Gachagua instead of the real issue, Kahiga’s divisive statement on the late Raila Odinga’s death.

According to Methu, Wanga’s statement mentioned the former deputy president more times than the accused governor.
He further argued that while condemning Kahiga was valid, mixing the matter with personal attacks on Gachagua weakened her message.
“Gladys Wanga, you’ve mentioned H.E. Rigathi Gachagua more than the accused in your statement,” Methu stated
“But what caught my attention was your claim that Rigathi, his allies, and his supporters cannot be your friends. I want to assume you meant your family, not your party,” he added.
The senator urged leaders to separate grief from politics, calling for restraint and unity during the mourning period for the late Raila Odinga.
Wanga attacks Gachagua
Governor Wanga had earlier issued a fiery statement linking Gachagua to Governor Kahiga’s comments, claiming that the Nyeri governor was acting as Gachagua’s mouthpiece.
“What I know is that Kahiga does not speak for himself. Kahiga is the spokesperson of Rigathi Gachagua,” Wanga said.

She went on to accuse Gachagua of mocking the late Raila Odinga during his illness, saying that his past remarks showed a deep-seated disdain.
“Rigathi Gachagua mocked Raila’s illness and asked whether he was a virus and whether Kalonzo was a bacterium.
“To date, Gachagua has yet to mourn Raila, who braved political tension to mourn his brother, the late Nderitu Gachagua,” Wanga stated.
The Homa Bay governor added that it was against principle for ODM members or supporters to associate with people who had previously shown contempt toward their leader.
“The principle is that the friend of your enemy is your enemy,” she declared.
Meanwhile, Governor Kahiga’s remarks, in which he implied that Raila’s death had “reset” Kenya’s political balance, continue to draw widespread condemnation.
Leaders across the political divide have described his words as insensitive and divisive, even after he issued an apology and resigned as the Vice Chair of the Council of Governors.
