Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) John Mbadi has dismissed the wantam campaign championed by allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing it as a false narrative that does not reflect the reality on the ground.

Speaking during a church service at St. Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Siaya County, Mbadi assured President William Ruto of his re-election, urging him to ignore critics.

“Those who read social media and sit in a corner to talk about one term: you will be shocked. The talk is an illusion. You are going to get your second term. What you need to do is to focus and continue with the work you are doing for Kenyans,” Mbadi declared.

He urged the President to continue uniting the country, saying his leadership approach would ultimately earn him political rewards.

Mbadi further expressed confidence that once Ruto completes his second term, power will be handed over to another leader who has the interests of the entire nation at heart, not just one region.

“What you are supposed to do is to include the whole country, bring peace to this country, and unite the country as you are doing it, and you are going to be rewarded; that reward will not only be to you but the people of Kenya,” he added.

“And once you finish your presidential term, I’m confident you are going to head over to another president who will be thinking about Kenya and not a particular region.”

Re-election

In addition, the CS hailed Ruto’s inclusivity efforts, stressing that many forgotten regions had made significant strides in development.

You have earned the friendship of this county, as you have demonstrated you care and you don’t want to see this region lag behind. I have worked with you for one year now, and I know your government is one of inclusivity. What is happening in Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, and Homabay is also happening in other parts of the country.

Ruto slams opposition

Mbadi’s remarks follow Ruto’s response to the opposition’s adopted chants on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Speaking during a function in Nandi County, Ruto disregarded the chants as a resort for politicians with nothing to offer Kenyans.

“Si tulikuwa na ingine ya Tibim, Tialala, tuko sasa na Wantam Kasongo,” the President said to laughter and applause from the crowd. “Tuta wanyorosha asubuhi na mapema. So, msikuwe na wasiwasi… Siasa ikianza, tuta tutawaonyesha kivumbi. Eh, munaelewa?” he added, teasing the opposition over what he described as their lack of strategy, policies, and coherent agenda.

The head of state further warned the opposition to brace for an early defeat in the coming elections.
