Matiang’i starts courting Jubilee leaders to be party’s presidential flagbearer

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has launched a nationwide campaign to engage Jubilee Party members and consolidate grassroots support ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential nominations.
Speaking during a round-table engagement with youth leaders in Nakuru County on Friday, October 3, 2025, Matiang’i revealed that his campaign will involve 47 meetings across the country, covering all counties and even visiting rural villages to mobilise members and strengthen the party’s foundation at the grassroots level.
“It is important to note that even in politics we work within frameworks and structures that have been set out in the various institutions we work with. The Jubilee NDC took place last week. The party leaders and the members expressed themselves very well. A new, changed, and approved constitution was adopted,” he said.
He highlighted the recent Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Ngong Racecourse, describing it as a pivotal event that brought together senior party leaders, loyal members, and officials to reflect on the party’s achievements, chart a path forward, and approve a revised party constitution.

He revealed that the NDC also established a new framework reaffirming the party’s direction and initiated the process of registering new members.
Matiang’i said this is the reason he has prioritised meeting Jubilee youth mobilisers, aiming to expand the party’s membership and consolidate support at the grassroots level before moving on to higher organisational matters.
“A framework reaffirming the party was approved. The process of registering new members has begun, and that is why I am now meeting Jubilee grassroots youth mobilisers to begin a drive of registering new members in Jubilee and expanding Jubilee at the grassroots level,” he added.

Matiang’i explained that the special NDC marked only the beginning of a wider set of activities within the party.
He outlined that the process will include recruitment drives, organisational restructuring, and eventually the selection of the party’s presidential candidate.
He clarified that his current engagement focuses on campaigning among party members, underlining that any presidential nomination begins with endorsement by the party’s grassroots supporters.
“Then the process will be followed by organisation of the party going forward. I do not want to put the cart before the horse about certain key decisions in terms of what is going to happen next. The special NDC was the beginning of that process. Several activities will take place — recruitments, reorganisations, and then the process of choosing a presidential candidate will happen in the party,” Matiang’i added.
Earlier, the former CS, while declaring his intention to run for president in 2027, vowed to restore Kenya’s lost glory and dismissed any possibility of working with President William Ruto.
Larger plan
According to Matiang’i, his nationwide engagement is just the first phase of a larger plan, stressing that he intends to personally meet members in every county and village possible.
He described the initiative as a structured approach to ensure that the party’s grassroots are actively involved in shaping Jubilee’s future, including consideration of candidates for the 2027 elections.
“What I am doing myself is campaigning among members of Jubilee because you will have to be nominated first of all by members of the party. This is the first of a series of 47 such meetings I am going to have across the country. I am going to meet Jubilee members in every county in Kenya, go to every village where I can find members of Jubilee. As I encourage them to register, I also ask them to consider me for the formal and official nomination when they nominate their candidates, including their candidate for the presidential contest. You can see the work has begun, that is what the NDC said last week, and that is what we are doing.”
The NDC, presided over by former President and Jubilee Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta, was attended by top party figures, including Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge, Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe, Peter Kenneth, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, former Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe, and Matiang’i himself.
The event also featured a rare public appearance by Uhuru’s son, John Jomo Kenyatta, highlighting the enduring influence of the former president within the party.
