The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) on Thursday said that it has launched investigations over the alleged killing of a civilian by a police officer in Mahi Mahiu, Nakuru County.

Speaking to K24 Digital, IPOA said that it was briefed on the matter and has taken appropriate action.

“The authority has dispatched the Rapid Investigations Team to Mahi Mahiu to establish circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of two people who were allegedly killed by police officers on a mission to enforce an arrest,” IPOA Chairperson Ms Ann Makori said.

Further, IPOA appealed to eyewitnesses to volunteer information to assist in the ongoing investigations.

K24 Digital exclusively received images of a police officer who was filmed allegedly shooting at a civilian following two-days of demos that were led by sand harvesters in the area.

In the amateur video, civilians are seen picking the bodies of the civilian who was allegedly shot in cold blood by the officer.

Amepigwa kifua, hapana hajapigwa kifua ni kwa mbavu,” a person speaking in the video is captured saying.

Initially, confusion surrounded the killing of two middle-aged men following reports that an armed motorist shot them as they tried to rob him.

However, one of the leaders identified as Samson Muiruri, who addressed the media over the killings, said that one of the victims was killed on Monday while the other was killed on Tuesday.

Muiruri accused the police of being behind the killings.
