The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Thursday, June 20, 2024, issued a stern warning to the National Police Service(NPS) against interference with the ongoing peaceful anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests across the country.
In a statement, the LSK president Faith Odhiambo cautioned the police service against breaking Article 37 of the 2010 constitution adding that they are monitoring the ongoing protest.
“The @LawSocietyofKe is keeping a keen watch on today’s planned protests. We reiterate our stern warning to officers of the@NPSOfficial_KE across the country that acts of violence and arbitrariness will be met with strong opposition and personal legal consequences,” Faith said.
“It is fundamental that the Sovereign people of Kenya exercise their right under Article 37 without fear of persecution or unwarranted acts of aggression.”
Faith further said that LSK is taking details of unlawful acts being perpetrated by the officers adding that they will take legal action against all rogue officers found acting against the law.
“We are taking a detailed record of all atrocities being perpetrated by officers contrary to their duty to protect all citizens and will commence necessary legal action against all officers identified as acting unlawfully,” she said.
The LSK president also called upon protestors to maintain peace and report any incidences of violence from the police officers.

Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests
Major towns across the country have joined the ongoing anti-Finance Bill protest which started on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Nairobi County.
On Thursday, June 20, 2024, residents of Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Kisii and Nanyuki joined the protest as parliament debates the proposed Finance Bill 2024.
These demonstrators are protesting against the Finance Bill which has proposed additional taxes on already burdened taxpayers.
