Four Moi University students who were expelled following unrest at the campus on Friday have vowed to fight the decision in court.

Following chaos that led to the closure of the university, four students were swiftly expelled, namely: Timothy Kemboi, Ian Rasueei, Hezborn Ondari and Ronny Kimathi.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Rasuuei said they were shocked by the university’s move to expel them in a letter dated October 11, 2019.

“We were entirely within our rights and as students’ representatives we couldn’t sit back and watch the institution unilaterally make decisions that affect our wellbeing in school. Let’s meet in court,” said Rasueei.

Moi University was closed on Friday after students protested against what they termed as unjust fee increment.

The aggrieved students also called for the resignation of the varsity’s vice chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kosgey, accusing him of effecting the new fee policy.

During the protests, the Moi University learners engaged police in running battles for the better part of Friday morning.

The university said it will announce the dates which the learners will resume studies.
