Lawyers representing suspects in the murder of Lawyer Willy Kimani and two others says they are optimistic their clients will be acquitted.

Cliff Ombeta, Kevin Michuki and James Mochere all representing the accused persons said they have put up a good fight in the matter and are now waiting for the court to give its verdict on Monday.

“The famous Willy Kimani case has come to an end today after the prosecution closed the matter after calling 46 witnesses,” Ombeta said.

The prosecution indicated to court that they have formally closed its case after Chief inspector Clement Mwangi gave the final testimony in the Willie Kimani murder case after calling a total of 46 witnesses.

“As a result we are now remaining with the ruling coming up on Monday, we are happy the matter has come to an end, the court can either acquit the accused persons or put them on their defence, we are optimistic and satisfied with the effort we have put,” Ombeta added.

Justice Jessie Lessit who was promoted to Court of appeal said she will on Monday next week deliver her ruling on whether the five accused persons have a case to answer.

If the judge rules in favour of the prosecution, the four administration police and a police informant will be placed on their defence in the trial that began five years ago.

The officers namely Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Cheburet, Sylvia Wanjiku and Leonard Mwangi are charged alongside Peter Ngugi the police informant.

The judge said she will make her ruling without submission by counsels because of the strict timelines given to her to finish the case.
