Two Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidates in Mpeketoni, Lamu county are sitting the exams from Mpeketoni District hospital after they gave birth yesterday morning.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said that one girl was to sit at Majembeni Secondary School while the other was to sit at Coast Khalid Girls Secondary school before they were blessed with babies.

“Only two incidences have been reported in Lamu county where two candidates gave birth with no complications and later on proceeded to sit for their exams from their hospital beds,” Macharia said.

According to the county commissioner, the two girls will continue to sit for their exams from the facility until they are discharged to go home.

“They are being monitored closely and as an authority, we are closely working with the health workers attending to them and once they are given a clean bill of health to go home, we will ensure that they continue to sit for their exams at their respective registered centres”, he said.

Lamu county has 27 registered centres with 1828 candidates sitting for this year’s KCSE exams.

Macharia further noted that security had been beefed up in terror-prone areas of Lamu to ensure the exams are done without hitches.

“We are well prepared to ensure that this exercise goes on smoothly, and we assure candidates from terror-prone areas in Lamu that their security is guaranteed,” he said.
