The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU) continues to stand in solidarity with the protesters of the anti-Finance Bill 2024.
KMPDU Secretary General Davji Bhimji Atellah in a statement on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, revealed that as a way of showing solidarity, they will be providing free medical services to demonstrators injured by the police during the ongoing protest.
Davji further stated that they will be using sound systems to help amplify their voices adding that as a Union they are in support of economic freedoms, political accountability, and civil liberties.
“We are providing FREE MEDICAL SERVICES to those injured by police during these demonstrations and a sound system to help amplify our voices as we join in solidarity with Kenyans across the country and globally. Let’s birth a new nation where every Kenyan is equal and free. VIVA!,” Davji said.

Anti-Finance Bill protest
Davji urged the State to respect the peace protesters since they are exercising their democratic rights.
“Over the past week, Kenyans have united, driven by a collective feeling of being unheard. This began with youth rejecting the finance bill and has grown into a larger struggle for democracy,” Davji said.
“The Kenyan dream must work for us HERE and NOW! As a trade union, we emphasize the importance of respecting the right to protest peacefully.”
He further urged the government to listen to the voices of Kenyans and reduce the cost of living.
“We call on the government to listen to the voices of the people, including those living in poverty, the precariously employed, and the middle class, who are all affected by rising taxation,” he said.

Abduction of medic
On June 23, a medic who was rallying Kenyans to donate blood for the injuries protestors was abducted and later released.
According to Davji, Austin Omondi was abducted by suspected government agents adding that before his kidnaping he had been receiving and issuing death threats to him due to his involvement with the ‘Medics for Kenya’ activities where young medics have been offering free medical aid and leading in blood donation drives to help injured protesters.
“I want to condemn in the strongest terms possible the abduction of one of our members, @Dr_AustinOmondiby suspected government agents in a car with registration plates KCU 819H,” Davji revealed.
“Dr.Austin last evening reported to us that strange people have been calling him and issuing death threats to him due to his involvement with the ‘Medics for Kenya’ activities where young medics have been offering free medical aid and leading in blood donation drives to help injured protesters.”
