Kisii County on Thursday morning passed the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020, making it the eighth county to do so.

Other counties that have passed the bill include Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu and Homa Bay county assemblies.

So far, only Baringo County Assembly has rejected the Bill.

If the Bill is passed in 16 more counties, it will head to Parliament and then a referendum will be held.

Two more county assemblies, Nyamira and Marsabit, kicked off the public participation exercise this week, ahead of debate next week.

Some assemblies, especially those in Deputy President William Ruto’s stronghold have been dragging their feet in submitting the Bill for debate.

They include Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Bomet and Kericho, which have argued that they have 90 days to consider the Bill once it is tabled.
