Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina: About 10 minors are detained in remand
By Nancy Marende, July 21, 2025Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has revealed that approximately 10 minors have been detained in remand for more than 10 days.
In a statement on Monday, July 21, 2025, Maina stated that the minors being detained are between the ages of 17 and below.
‘We’ve mapped around 10 minors, 17 & below, who have been detained in remand for over 10 days,” he said.
Further, she claimed that despite the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) being fully aware of the correct legal procedures for handling minors, the DPP continues to approve charges against them.
“Despite the DPP being well aware of the procedure of processing minors, they approve charges against them nevertheless, because what better does the government have to do than terrorise minors?” she posed.
“I mean, on that, they deliver beyond expectations, and they’ve got to show that they can deliver something. Crass! Diabolically crass!” he added.

Drama at Thika Law Courts
This comes a few days after a cry for justice turned bitter after protesters arrested during the Saba Saba demonstrations were arraigned in Thika Law Courts and slapped with hefty bail conditions.
The protesters, accused of terrorism-related offences, were ordered a cash bail of Ksh100,000 each on Wednesday, July 17, 2025, a figure families and rights groups have termed excessive and punitive.
The charges and bail conditions triggered emotional scenes outside the court. Wails filled the air as parents and relatives of the accused pleaded for justice.

“This is injustice!” one mother shouted as others cried uncontrollably.
A grandmother, standing in a police truck, strained to be heard as she demanded the release of her grandson. Inside the court precincts, chaos ensued as families refused to leave, with some mothers threatening to strip in protest.
Police officers restrained the crowds and blocked access to certain areas of the court, further fueling tensions.
