Hundreds of tenants were evacuated after a building that was under construction caved in and leaned on their houses on Saturday night.

No injuries were reported with eyewitnesses claiming that they heard a loud sound minutes before midnight only to establish that the 5-storey building had collapsed and was leaning on an adjacent apartment.

So far, police have managed to secure the scene, to ensure that no one gets hurt as investigations into the cause of the collapse begin.

Kinoo Deputy Assistant Commissioner Rosemary Mwangi told the media that the area had been sealed off to keep off curious onlookers.

“We are asking locals to keep off the area lest they get hurt in the event the building collapses further”, she said.

She said that security apparatus is waiting for other relevant authorities that like National Construction Authority (NCA) and Kiambu County administration to give direction on how the leaning building will be demolished without putting people’s lives in danger.
