Vote tallying has been suspended in Kiambaa by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
This is after a fracas broke out at Karuri Secondary School in the morning of Friday, July 16 when Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama claimed the by-election was being rigged in favour of UDA’s John Njuguna.
In a video circulating online, Kariri is seen protesting the results which placed Njuguna in the lead with 21,606 votes.
Kariri on the other hand had 21,151 votes after votes from 153 polling stations out of 154 had been tallied.
Addressing supporters of UDA and Jubilee, Kiambaa’s returning officer Peter Muigai said he is waiting for the presiding officer of the remaining polling centre to verify form 35 A which he said was missing.
Announcement of results came to a stop at about 4am and no activity was ongoing at the polling centre as early as 7am.
Heavy police presence is being witnessed at the main tallying centre in Karuri Secondary school.
While the competition was mainly between Jubilee and UDA, the race attracted six other candidates.
They are: Other candidates are Evans Wainaina of the People’s Party of Kenya, Kamau Willie Mbugua an independent candidate, Muchugi Isaac Karomo of the Federal Party of Kenya, Munyinyi David Mugo an independent candidate, Muthaka Lucy Wanjiru of PNU and and Richard Njoroge of The New Democrats.
