A 59-year-old Nation Group Sports correspondent was on Friday February 18, 2022 found hanging in his house after he allegedly took his own life.

The deceased, Titus Maero, is said to have taken his life following financial constraints and separation from his wife, who together they sired two children.

Maero’s younger brother told K24 Digital that they discovered the body of the journalist after they sensed foul smell from his house.

“My brother has been a sports journalist in Kakamega county and even won an award during the Covid-19 period since he used to submit many interesting stories,” Maero’s brother revealed.

The deceased reportedly left behind a suicide note stating that he suffered from Intestinal Cancer. His younger brother revealed to K24 Digital that the journalist suffered the condition and mental illness for a period of 15 years.

Before taking up his role as sports reporter for Nation Media, Maero worked as a correspondent for Kenya Times Newspaper and People Daily Newspaper.

While confirming the incident, the area chief Dennis Mukhweso stated that the deceased separated from the mother of his two kids 20 years ago and has never remarried.

The deceased’s body was moved to Kakamega mortuary for post mortem as the family starts funeral arrangements.
