Kenya Power lists parts of 4 counties set for blackout on August 4
By Kenneth Mwenda, August 3, 2025Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power outage set to affect various parts of four counties on Monday, August 4, 2025, as part of its routine maintenance works aimed at improving service delivery.
According to a public notice issued by the utility firm on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the planned interruptions will occur across regions in Bomet, West Pokot, Embu, and Taita Taveta counties. The affected areas will experience power loss during different hours of the day, with most outages expected to start at 9:00 am and extend until 4:00 or 5:00 pm.
Bomet County
In Bomet County, the outage will impact customers in Koiwa Market and its surrounding areas. The blackout will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Monday. Kenya Power indicated that locations such as Rorok T/Fact, Kobel T/Fact, Siomo EPZ T/Fact, and the entire Cheptalal area will be affected. Other locations include Taboino, Kitala, Kimarwandi, Embomos, Bosto, Satiet, Kaptebengwet, Kiptenden, and adjacent customers.
West Pokot County
In the North Rift Region, parts of West Pokot County will be affected, specifically in the Murkwijit area. The outage here is scheduled to last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected areas include Tartar, Comolee, Keringet, Kaplelach Koror, Cheptuya, Kaptarin, and Adurkoit.
Embu County
Residents in Gachoka and its environs in Embu County will also be without power on Monday. The interruption, set to start earlier than others at 8:30 am, will end at 4:00 pm. Kenya Power listed several institutions and markets that will be impacted, including Embu Airstrip, Don Bosco, Jeremiah Nyagah Technical, and Gachoka Market. Others are Kuku Afya, Kangeta Fides, Highland Canners, Gachuriri Market, Yonder Water Pumps, KHE, and numerous schools and farms such as Kamwimbi Pri and Emidan Farm.
Taita Taveta County
In the Coast Region, Bura area in Taita Taveta County will also experience a blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Kenya Power said the entire Bura Station and Mission will be affected, alongside Sarova Saltlick Hotels & Lodges, Zare, Nyolo, Mnamu, and Tungulu.
Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected regions to prepare adequately for the outages and assured that the maintenance work is crucial in ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply in the future.
