Kenya losing its sovereignty to foreign powers – Amisi warns

By , August 6, 2025

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has raised an alarm over the direction of Kenya’s foreign policy, calling for a complete renaissance amid reports that the United States of America (US) government is closely monitoring President William Ruto’s administration.

In a statement on his X account on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Amisi questioned the country’s current diplomatic trajectory.

“What happened to our foreign policy? Kenya needs a renaissance,” the statement read.

The remarks come days after the lawmaker, in an interview with Obinna TV, argued that Kenya’s sovereignty and global reputation are being eroded by an overreliance on external powers, especially traditional allies like the United States.

“Why nations fail? It starts with leadership. Some of the countries, such as Singapore, we were ahead of them at some point, but now people are leaving here to go and benchmark there,” he argued.

Amisi cited the recent designation of Kenya as a Major Non-NATO Ally, a move he claims has dragged the country into unnecessary geopolitical tensions.

He also pointed to diplomatic missteps in Kenya’s handling of regional crises in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, warning that such actions have diminished Kenya’s influence in East Africa.

“This issue poses imminent risks to Kenya’s interstate relations, national security, and potential retaliation from other belligerent forces, their allied states, or non-state actors,” Amisi said.

He urged the Ruto administration to rethink its international posture, broaden diplomatic partnerships, and prioritise national interests over foreign appeasement.

Amisi clash with Sing’oei.

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Korir Sing’oei, has issued a sharp rebuke against Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi, dismissing the legislator’s claims about secretive loan negotiations between Kenya and China as irresponsible and baseless.

The dispute erupted publicly on social media on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, after Amisi claimed that the government had sought a loan from China using the country’s mineral-rich lands in Taita Taveta as collateral and that Beijing had rejected the request.

“Reports reaching me are that China has rejected the attempt by the UDA government to borrow more money from China using the Taita Taveta mineral fields as collateral. If proven to be true, this is an unacceptable move. Let us live within our means. Let’s avoid committing any single asset of the Republic of Kenya in the quest to fund our misplaced priorities and grandiose spending. Kenya must have a renaissance!” Amisi wrote on X on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
