Kennedy Onyango’s mother sends emotional plea to Ruto
By Valerian Khakayi, June 28, 2025Kennedy Onyango’s mother, Jacinta Anyango, has called upon President William Ruto to fulfil his promise of justice for her son, who was tragically killed during the 2024 anti-government protests in Ongata Rongai.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Friday night, June 27, 2025, Anyango said that she would want the president to pursue the police officer who killed Kennedy since the police boss might know what type of bullet was used and who had carried that specific gun since they knew every weapon and its serial number.
She added that a post‑mortem had been performed, and it had been confirmed what kind of bullet it was.
“Mimi mbaka sai ningethani rais angetafuata ni askari mgani aliuwa Kennedy, na mkubwa wa askari anajua ni risasi gani ilitumika na ni nani alikuwa na hiyo bunduki juu wanajua kila bunduki na number yake, na wanajua ni nani alibeba juu postmortem ilifanyika na ikapatikana ni risasi,” she said.
Anyango went on to say that the president should enforce the law against the person who had done that and that she would feel relieved to see that individual arrested.

“Angefanya sharia kwa yule aliyefanya hivyo nikiwa na ona ningeona huyu mtu ameshikwa; ata Kennedy angetulia haja rest in peace sababu mtu alimuua haja kamatwa bado yuko kazini ana kula mshahara, na mimi ameni nyang’anya mtoto.“
Additionally, Anyango emphasised that the president should seek out those who had killed their children, adding that it would be a great justice for their lives and justice for the blood of their fallen children.
She added that Ruto should call the bereaved parents and offer them condolences.
“Rais angetatuta wale waliuwa watoto wetu hiyo ni justice kubwa kwa maisha yetu, ni justice kwa damu ya watoto wetu wale walikufa. Tena angetuita kama wazazi, angetuambia wazazi poleni,” she added.
Anyango on Kennedy’s case
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Anyango condemned the Independent Policing Oversight Authority’s (IPOA) request for more proof
Speaking to journalists at the Milimani Law Courts, Jacinta said that the oversight authority had asked her to provide more evidence on how the boy was killed.
Jacinta expressed shock over IPOA’s request for more evidence, stating that they were present during the postmortem, which confirmed her son was shot. She added that the postmortem report is the only evidence she has.
“I was surprised by IPOA’s demand yet they were present during postmortem exercise, and they saw the results stating he was killed through a bullet. I only have the postmortem report and the grave of my son as evidence,” Jacinta told journalists.
She expressed frustration with seeking justice through IPOA, stating that she can no longer pursue the matter with them.
