Karua cautions allies against leaking unapproved political line-ups

PLP party leader Martha Karua has issued a stern warning to her allies, cautioning them against leaking political lineups and proposals that have not been approved by the coalition’s principals.

She expressed concern over a growing trend of unverified information being circulated, insisting that any technical team proposals not formally debated or agreed upon should not be considered factual.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Karua noted that she has seen various speculative lineups being shared, which she dismissed as misleading and potentially divisive.

“I would also want to caution those among our ranks to stop leaking things that have not been agreed upon, including line-ups. I am seeing a lot of these so-called line-ups. If any proposals from our technical team have not been debated by the principals, then they are not the truth,” she said.

She stressed that nothing has been officially tabled, urging those responsible to stop assigning positions or presenting unapproved arrangements. According to her, any information that does not come directly from the leadership named is false and should be disregarded.

“If there are such proposals, I would not even know about them because nothing has been tabled. So, I urge everyone to stop assigning people positions and spreading unapproved information. Let us just leave the process to take its course,” Karua said.

The outspoken leader, while calling for unity, reaffirmed her confidence in defeating President Ruto in 2027 regardless of the electoral commission’s composition.

Karua declared that even if the IEBC were chaired by Ruto himself alongside members of his household, the opposition would still prevail because, in her view, the majority of Kenyans are eager to vote him out.

She also extended an invitation to Kenyans of goodwill to partner with the opposition in their efforts, emphasising that the battle to unseat the president cannot be fought alone.

“But yes, we can be organised, and we are in the process of organising ourselves. Like I have said, even if Ruto and his household took over the IEBC as commissioners, this time around we will send him home. I invite Kenyans of goodwill to partner with us because we cannot do it alone,” she added.

Ruto dialogue

In the same interview, Karua firmly dismissed any possibility of dialogue with President William Ruto’s administration, terming the Kenya Kwanza regime rogue and dishonest.

Karua said she would not participate in any process meant to “whitewash impunity” and accused the state of using talks as a tool to silence dissent.

“What do you say? Dialogue? Dialogue with the rogue KK regime is not an option,” Karua stated. “Let me remind my friend, the Right Honourable Odinga, that he went for NADCO talks. I was in Azimio then, and I was against those talks.”

Failed NADCO process

Karua said the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which was initiated in 2023, dragged on for a year and ended up serving only political elites.

“The outcome was not pro-people. Other than seats for the big boys, there was nothing. The cost of living remained high,” she noted, adding that NADCO was used as a pacifier to deceive Kenyans.

“William Ruto does not approach issues with honesty. It’s lies, lies, and more lies. What we need is adherence to the law, not more dialogue.”

Karua expressed outrage over the reinstatement of senior police officer Lagat, despite being linked to the chain of command that led to the death of protester Albert Ojuang.

“How on earth can he be returned to work?” she posed. “The law is elaborate; it is impunity that needs curing.”
