Kaluma urges US Democrats to prioritize family values over LGBTQ agenda to regain power

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has urged the United States Democratic Party to abandon its advocacy for LGBTQ rights and focus on promoting family values if it hopes to regain power.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, March 31, 2025, Kaluma laid out what he believes are the key steps for the Democratic Party to revive its influence in the US political landscape. He accused the party of pushing a harmful LGBTQ agenda driven by “Big Pharma” and argued that the party would only succeed by prioritizing traditional family structures.
Kaluma also called for a firm stance against abortion and illegal immigration, emphasizing the need to protect human life, uphold territorial sovereignty, and maintain national integrity.
“The USA Democratic Party is dead and will only resurrect and reclaim power if, and only if: They drop LGBTQ perversion pushed by the Big Pharma in all its aspects and embrace the Family unit; Ban abortion and illegal migration and firmly stand for human life/humanity and territorial sovereignty and integrity of the USA. Restore religion and respect for religious freedom in – In God We Trust – USA,” Kaluma stated.

Kaluma’s firm stance
Kaluma has been a vocal opponent of LGBTQ rights in Kenya, consistently advocating for legislation that criminalizes same-sex relationships and condemning efforts to promote LGBTQ acceptance in the country.
In 2023, Kaluma accused former U.S. Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, of promoting pro-LGBTQ+ agendas within the country. This accusation came after Whitman affirmed the U.S. government’s support for the LGBTQ+ community in Kenya, despite the Kenyan government’s firm stance against legalizing homosexuality.
Whitman, through a statement shared on her X account on, revealed that she had recently met with members of the LGBTQ community along with other stakeholders to advocate for gay rights.
“The U.S. proudly advances efforts to protect LGBTQI+ persons from discrimination and violence and will continue to stand up for human rights and equality,” Whitman stated.
In response, Kaluma dismissed Whitman’s remarks, asserting that Kenyans would not tolerate her efforts to promote LGBTQ+ rights within the country.
“The Universal Declaration of Human Rights talks about the rights of all human persons; men and women. Kenyans will not accept that perverted ‘sexual orientation’ nonsense you’re pushing in Kenya!” Kaluma said at the time.
He announced his intention to introduce a bill aimed at outlawing homosexuality and its promotion in Kenya.
“I intend to bring legislation to criminalize and punish homosexuality and other unnatural acts and to further criminalize the promotion of such acts,” Kaluma stated in a letter addressed to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Kaluma emphasized that the proposed legislation would consolidate all existing laws related to what he termed as “unnatural sexual acts.”
He further noted that the proposed bill would seek harsher penalties for individuals convicted of engaging in or promoting homosexuality, suggesting life imprisonment or equivalent sentences.
“The proposed law intends to further the provisions of article 45(2) of the constitution of Kenya and to protect the family will not only consolidate all existing laws relating to unnatural sexual acts but also increase the penalty for those convicted of engaging or promoting the acts to imprisonment for life or commensurate sentence,” the statement continued.
