Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, lauded the granting of bail to Democracy for Citizens Party youth leaders Peter Kinyanjui and Wanjiku Muhia.

Through a statement shared via his X page, Kalonzo also revealed that over 40 youths who were facing similar charges had also been granted bail.

According to the DCP party, Kinyanjui and Muhia were released on Ksh50,000 cash bail each.

Granted bail

“Today we celebrate our justice system for granting bail to Peter Kinyanjui Wawanjiru, Serah Wanjiku Thiga, and over 40 brave Gen Zs facing outrageous terrorism charges,” the former VP said in a statement.

While hailing the legal development, Kalonzo voiced his concern over the exploitation of the third arm of the government by the state to initiate criminal proceedings of outrageous charges against perceived dissidents.

He specifically expressed his dismay with laying of terrorism charges on eight youths arrested during the burial of Albert Ojwang in Kakoth, Homa Bay County.

“Last week, MP for Manyatta Hon. Gitonga Mukunji, Inooro TV journalist James Mboochi, and Stanley Mbuthia, the boda boda rider, were also released on punitive bail terms after being charged under the same case. Most disturbing, however, is the weaponisation of our judiciary and the abuse of anti-terror laws to punish protest, dissent, and even mourning. Even the most ardent apologists of this dictatorship are at a loss for words when eight young men who accompanied the body of slain Albert Ojwang to Homa Bay were charged with terrorism offences,” his statement read.

His comments come days after he accused the state of fabricating terrorism charges against individuals deemed by the government as dissidents.

Kalonzo stated that the government was attempting to intimidate and silence its critics through trumped-up charges.

“These are trumped-up accusations meant to intimidate and silence leaders who stand with the people. As I said yesterday at this courthouse, these tools of tyranny have an expiration date. We will fight this blatant abuse of power with the ultimate weapon: The Constitution of Kenya, 2010,” Kalonzo stated on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after appearing for the hearings of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, Peter Wawanjiru and Serah Wanjiku Thiga at the Kahawa Law Court
