Kalonzo issues fresh demands to IEBC after reconstitution

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued fresh demands to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which was reconstituted after the chairperson and commissioners were sworn in.
Speaking on Friday, July 11, 2025, during the burial of a mask hawker Boniface Kariuki on Friday, July 11, 2025, in Murang’a County, Kalonzo said that the commission must now expedite registration of voters and the updating of the voter register.
“Today, the new commission of the IEBC has been sworn in, and we want to see that the commission proves that it is not a Ruto commission, even though we believe it is his commission. Even if Ruto himself is the chairman of the IEBC, we shall send him home,” Kalonzo said.
Urgent registration of voters
“With the IEBC commission now in place, we want to see an urgent recruitment of voters, we want to see a new voter register, and the Gen Z voters should be expeditiously registered as voters.”

“These young people are determined, and they are very ready as long as you do not have them killed,” he added.
The remarks come after the IEBC announced that its voter verification portal is now back online following a period of scheduled system maintenance.
IEBC voter verification maintenance
The move comes after several Kenyans raised concerns over what appeared to be missing voter registration data.
“The Voter Verification Portal is back–up and running! We appreciate your patience during the maintenance period. Check your voter details now,” the commission said in a post shared on its official X on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Earlier on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the IEBC responded to public outcry over claims that voter registration records were missing. Many Kenyans had taken to social media, sharing screenshots and expressing fears that their data from the 2022 General Election had disappeared.
However, the Commission swiftly moved to reassure the public that their details were intact.
“We wish to assure all Kenyans that the registration details of the 22,120,458 registered voters, as recorded during the 2022 General Election, remain intact and secure,” read part of the official statement.
