Joyce Gituro issues apology over comment on pastor’s dismissal
Media Personality Joyce Gituro has finally issued an apology, hours after facing backlash for comments she made about a senior pastor whom Nairobi Baptist Church dismissed over gross misconduct.
Taking to her X handle on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Gituro regretted that she had reacted too quickly to the issue without having full knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the pastor’s removal.
Initial comment sparks criticism
The controversy began when Gituro commented on a social media post regarding the dismissal of Pastor Munendi Mulandi, who was removed from his position by church elders over what they described as serious misconduct.
“So, why put it on social media? You’re damaging a brother more!!” she wrote, sparking online outrage from users who felt her message appeared to defend the accused pastor.
Following the backlash, Gituro deleted the comment and subsequently restricted replies on her social media posts.

Public apology issued
In her apology, Gituro clarified that she had initially misunderstood the gravity of the situation and was reacting based on an assumption that it was an internal disciplinary matter.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming,” she said.
“Once I learned the truth, I deleted the post. Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian,” she added.
Support for victims reaffirmed
Gituro emphasised that she stands with victims of abuse and deeply regrets her earlier comment.
“I regret my fast reaction to that story. I stand against any form of abuse and also with the victims,” she said.
While the apology appeared to calm some critics, others continued to demand more accountability, arguing that public figures have a responsibility to speak with care on sensitive matters.
Nairobi Baptist Church has not publicly commented on Gituro’s remarks. The church had earlier confirmed the pastor’s dismissal through an official statement, citing a decision by elders after receiving complaints.
