Jeremiah Ongaro breaks down in tears after IEBC declares him winner in Ekerenyo Ward

UPA candidate Jeremiah Ongaro was declared the winner of the Ekerenyo Ward by-election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), securing 3,507 votes out of a total of 6,623 voters who participated.

The ward had 14,273 registered voters, representing a voter turnout of 46 per cent.

Ongaro gave his victory speech amid visible emotion, breaking down in tears as he addressed the cheering crowd of supporters who had gathered to celebrate his win.

In his remarks, Ongaro thanked everyone who participated in the election, including those who did not vote for him.

He acknowledged the role of journalists who covered the campaign trail and expressed gratitude to his opponents, urging unity and cooperation moving forward.

“Thank you very much to everyone who participated in this election, in every area. I also want to thank the journalists who followed us throughout this campaign. I am grateful to my opponents, and I hope we can now work together to serve the community,” he said.

He also thanked the IEBC and security personnel for ensuring that the election was conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner.

Ongaro assured the community that his focus would now shift to serving the residents who had placed their trust in him.

“I also appreciate the IEBC and the security personnel for ensuring the election was conducted smoothly. To those who tried to disrupt the campaign, know that I am now in office and it is time to start serving the people who elected me,” he added.

The newly elected MCA further praised his campaign team and close supporters, singling out his brother Ken Musungu for his dedication and commitment throughout the campaign.

He described the emotional support from his team as invaluable and expressed hope that God would reward their efforts.

“This victory brings joy to our entire community, including those living abroad. I want to recognize the unity shown by this ward and I cannot forget my brothers and campaign team who supported me tirelessly, especially Ken Musungu, who has been a pillar of strength. Their dedication, leaving work day and night to campaign and support me, means a lot. I pray that God will reward their efforts,” Ongaro said amid tears.
