A contingent of police officers drawn from the General Service Unit (GSU) on Sunday, December 2 night shot dead a suspected cattle rustler in Kasarani village in Isiolo County.
In a police report seen by K24 Digital, Ebilait Leri Apailem was gunned down and a firearm make Caribine of serial number 08994 was recovered.
It all started when Apailem shot in the air twice within the village as he swore that he was on a mission to kill someone.
This saw members of the public alert police officers attached to GSU Aramiet camp over the matter and the officers swiftly responded.
“They reported that there was an armed Turkana male adult within the vicinity who had fired two shots on the air and that he swore to kill someone,” the police report read in part.
The officers arrived at the village and took position with the aim of nabbing the deceased but he started shooting at them.
Police said that he fired several rounds at them prompting a fierce exchange of fire which led to his death.
No villager or police officer was injured in the deadly shoot-out which reportedly lasted ten minutes.
The body of the deceased is currently being preserved at Isiolo County Referral Hospital morgue.
Currently, sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating what transpired.
In the recent past, cases of cattle rustling in the area have been on the increase which attracted the attention of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who beefed up security in the area.
