Isiolo County Assembly denies holding sitting for Guyo’s impeachment

The Isiolo County Assembly has dismissed holding a sitting to impeach the devolved unit’s governor, Abdi Guyo.
In a statement on Thursday, June 26, 2025, the County Assembly’s Clerk, Salad Boru Gutracha, stated that his office has facilitated no such sitting.
“We wish to categorically deny and clarify misleading reports circulating in the media and on social platforms claiming that the Assembly convened a sitting today, Thursday, 26th June 2025, to advance impeachment proceedings against the Governor of Isiolo County or to conduct any such related business.
“No such sitting has been convened, held, or facilitated by this office,” he stated.
Furthermore, he disclosed that there are active court orders explicitly prohibiting the county assembly from initiating impeachment proceedings against the governor.
“The Assembly is fully bound by these orders and remains committed to upholding the rule of law and constitutional due processes,” read the statement.
“This office has not issued any notice or order paper or deployed officers for facilitating such a sitting, nor has it facilitated any proceedings, formal or informal, on the matter on the basis of the above.”

To add to that, the County Assembly clarified that the substantive clerk remains Salad Boru.
“Additionally, it is important to clarify that the substantive clerk of the County Assembly remains one Mr. Salad Boru, and anyone purporting to act as such has no legal footing to facilitate any such sitting nor act on behalf of this office.”
“The public is therefore advised to disregard any allegations of an impeachment process having been undertaken. The impeachment of a governor is a solemn constitutional process, guided by the law and structured procedure,” the statement added.
Impeachment claims
This follows widespread reports claiming members of the County Assembly had impeached Governor Guyo.
The turmoil erupted after a statement circulating on social media declared that Governor Guyo had been removed from office in a sitting allegedly held by the County Assembly.
The purported statement claimed that 16 out of 18 members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voted in favour of the impeachment motion, with two members absent and none opposed.
However, the Office of the Clerk of the County Assembly swiftly refuted the allegations.
