Over a month after two siblings and an activist from Kitengela disappeared, newly appointed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has denied claims that the police are holding the three individuals.

The trio, Boby Njagi, Aslam Longton and Jamil Longton vanished on August 19, 2024.

Speaking to the media shortly after being sworn in on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Kanja emphasized that while the Kitengela three are not in police custody, the case is under active investigation.

“You are aware that I have just taken over the office. What I want to mention is that what I have gotten from our police is we do not have the Kitengela three. What I do know is a report was made and an active investigation is ongoing. We are also urging people of goodwill to come forward and help us with information,” Kanja stated.

The disappearance of the three men has ignited widespread public outrage, with families desperately seeking answers about their whereabouts. Speculation has arisen, with reports of potential involvement of law enforcement in the abduction.

Despite these claims, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohamed has firmly denied any connection between the National Police Service (NPS) and the missing individuals.

Mohamed told the media on Thursday that the NPS is not involved in the incident and reassured the public that abduction is a serious criminal offence, handled with full diligence by the police.

He explained that the NPS is committed to investigating such crimes thoroughly, identifying those responsible, and ensuring they face justice.

“NPS is not involved in any case of abduction; we are not holding the Kitengela three,” said Mohamed.

“Abduction is a penal code offence that we as NPS deal with decisively by investigating, profiling, and taking the perpetrators before the court.”
