IEBC to engage parliament and treasury to secure funds for seamless election processes
By Nancy Marende, July 19, 2025The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced plans to engage the National Treasury and Parliament to secure timely and adequate funding to support the smooth execution of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing on Saturday, July 19, 2025, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon emphasised that the successful implementation of its electoral roadmap is heavily dependent on early and sufficient resource allocation.
“It’s noteworthy that the successful implementation of planned activities depends on timely and adequate funding. We can only succeed if we have adequate resources that will enable us to deliver on our mandate on elections and other related activities around elections,” he said.
“IEBC, therefore, in this respect, will engage with the national treasury and parliament to secure the necessary resources on time to enable us to get necessary materials and funding for all the processes involved on time,” he added.
Further, the Commission warned that delays in funding have, in the past, hindered its ability to plan and implement critical electoral activities, including procurement and logistical arrangements.
“This is very critical because, as you have noticed in the past, you have a situation where the commission struggles with financing, and sometimes by the time the finances are availed, it’s too late, and it becomes cumbersome and stressful for us to undertake procurement on time so that we can have a smooth and seamless election process,” he added.

Additionally, the chairperson has assured Kenyans of the full preparedness to deliver credible, transparent, and peaceful elections in the upcoming August 10, 2027, general election.
He emphasised the Commission’s commitment to upholding the Constitution of Kenya and all relevant electoral laws.
“As the commission embarks on its roadmap for the August 10, 2027, elections, we wish to assure the public of the preparedness of the commission to deliver inclusive, credible, transparent, and peaceful elections in strict compliance with the constitution of Kenya and all the electoral laws,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the success of a robust democracy depends on institutional integrity and the active participation of citizens and all electoral stakeholders.
