IEBC lists new short-term jobs for voter registration and by-elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a nationwide recruitment drive for temporary staff to support ongoing voter registration at Huduma Centres and to facilitate upcoming by-elections across various counties.

In a notice published on the IEBC jobs portal on Monday, October 6, 2025, the commission noted that it is seeking qualified and non-partisan Kenyan citizens to serve in several temporary capacities, including voter registration clerks, presiding and deputy presiding officers, polling clerks, voter educators, logistics officers, and ICT clerks.

“The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) seeks to recruit temporary staff to serve in the following capacities: Voter Registration Clerks: To be deployed across the 57 Huduma Centres countrywide, and By-Election Poll Officials,” IEBC wrote on X.

IEBC revealed that voter registration clerks will be deployed across 57 Huduma Centres countrywide, where they will operate biometric registration kits, verify applicants’ eligibility, assist in filling out registration forms, and ensure safe custody of registration equipment.

The clerks will earn Ksh1,500 per day.

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 19 and above, possess a minimum KCSE grade of C- (minus), and demonstrate computer literacy.

“Be a Kenyan citizen aged 19 years and above. Hold a minimum KCSE C- (minus) or its equivalent. Possess computer literacy and ICT skills;  a Diploma in ICT, Statistics, Education, Business Administration, or related field will be an added advantage. Demonstrate integrity, accountability, and confidentiality. Registration Clerks based at Huduma Centres will be paid Kshs1,500 per day,” the notice read in part.

IEBC set Thursday, October 16, 2025, as the application deadline for this position.

By-election positions

For those interested in serving in the by-elections, the commission announced opportunities for presiding and deputy presiding officers, who will oversee polling stations and ensure smooth election management.

Presiding officers will earn Ksh2,000 per day, while their deputies will be paid Ksh1,800 per day.

IEBC stated that applicants for these roles must hold at least a diploma or degree from a recognised institution, be computer literate, possess good report-writing skills, and be residents of the constituency or ward where they apply to work.

“Must hold a Degree/Diploma certificate from a recognised institution; Good report writing skills; Ability to manage people, sensitive data and materials; Have skills in data computation; Must be available for the entire period of the exercise. Presiding Officers will be paid KShs. 2000 per day, and Deputy Presiding Officers will be paid Kshs. 1,800 per day,” IEBC added.

Voter education

IEBC also invited applications for ward-based voter educators who will be responsible for conducting voter education campaigns at the community level, including in schools, churches, health centres, markets, and other public spaces.

These officers will liaise with local leaders and community organisations to promote civic awareness and voter participation.

Ward-based voter educators will earn Ksh1,500 per day, while county and constituency voter educators will be paid Ksh2,500 and Ksh2,000, respectively.

“County Voter Educators will be paid Kshs2500/= per day. Constituency Voter Educators will be paid Ksh2000/= per day. Ward-based Voter Educators will be paid Kshs 1500/- per day.”

To further strengthen the electoral process, the commission is seeking to engage polling and counting clerks, who will assist presiding officers in managing queues, identifying voters, issuing ballot papers, and sorting votes.

These clerks will receive a daily wage of Ksh1,000.

Applicants must have attained a minimum KCSE grade of C- and be residents of the constituency or ward in which they intend to serve.

“Clerks will assist in laying out of the polling station and counting room. Demarcate and display posters at the polling station. Control queues and guide voters to respective polling station,” IEBC shared.

IEBC also outlined vacancies for ICT clerks who will provide first-level ICT support services during elections, including configuration and testing of KIEMS kits, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting election officials with technology-related operations.

The ICT clerks will earn Ksh1,500 per day and are required to hold a diploma in ICT or a related field, with additional ICT certifications such as MCSE or CCNA considered an advantage.

“To provide high-quality first-level ICT support services to the Returning Officer at the tallying centre. Restore normal services to the users as quickly as possible by fixing technical hitches, fulfilling service requests or answering queries to allow the users to work effectively. To prepare, configure and test KIEMS kits in readiness for the elections,” IEBC shared.

Other positions include Support Electoral Trainers (SETs), who will assist in training presiding officers, deputy presiding officers, and clerks on polling, counting, and tallying procedures.

SETs will be paid Ksh2,000 per day and must demonstrate proven training and organisational skills.

“SETs will assist in the training of Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers and Clerks. The training involves the polling, counting and tallying process.”
