The Ministry of Health has advised Kenyans to remain vigilant as the risk for contracting coronavirus disease is still high.

“Continue taking precautionary measures by maintaining basic hand and respiratory hygiene, safe food practices and avoiding close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections,” said the Health ministry.

This is in wake of Kenya letting in 239 passengers who travelled from Guangzhou China to Nairobi on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Health continues to be on high alert to ensure there is no importation of Covid-19 into the country and wishes to inform the public that the 239 passengers were screened onboard and cleared, and the aircraft decontaminated.

Six days prior to the arrival of the China Southern Airlines flight, the ministry said on Twitter that it had received medical supplies worth Sh1 million from the Kenya-China Economic Association.

The medical kits, the ministry said, were to help in the prevention of coronavirus disease and were received by the acting Director of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth.

Following the arrival of the flight from China on Wednesday, #coronavirusinKenya, #JKIA and China have been the top trends on social media.

Kenyans online have expressed concerns that local authorities may be playing with danger, especially after the World Health Organization said the virus is now spreading faster outside China where it emerged.
