Harambee Stars’ CHAN icons proposed for national heroes award

The National Heroes Council has proposed African Nations Championship (CHAN) top scorer Wesley Ogam, among other Harambee Stars team members, to be declared as National Heroes in the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations.
In a report by My Gov issued on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the government under the National Heroes Council issued the names of the persons who stood out during the CHAN competitions.
Among the names listed for the proposal were Harambee Stars captain Omar Aboud and Harambee Stars team manager and Data analyst Nicodemus Kimathi Musau.
According to the National Heroes Council, Ryan Wesley Ogam Rabok has been proposed to be feted for his contribution to Harambee Stars, where he scored two crucial goals for Harambee Stars during the 2024 CHAN Championship.
“Wesley is being honoured for his role in Harambee Stars. He scored two crucial goals for Harambee Stars during the 2024 CHAN Championship. He was the top scorer.”

On the other hand, Harambee Stars team captain Omar Aboud has been listed, and according to the National Heroes Council, he will be honoured for his role in the Kenyan football sector and Harambee Stars, where he led the team to the quarter finals.
“Omar is being honoured for his role in the Kenyan Football Sector and Harambee Stars. He was the captain during the 2024 CHAN. He led the team tothe quarter-finals,” read the document.

Other Harambee Stars proposed heroes
Similarly, Harambee Stars goalkeeper Bryne Omondi has also been proposed and will be listed for his outstanding goalkeeping displays during the 2024 CHAN tournament.
“Bryne is being honoured for his contribution to the Kenyan football sector and Harambee Stars. He earned the Man of the Match award with outstanding goalkeeping displays,” read the notice in part.

In addition, the National Team’s midfield maestro, Alpha Onyango, has also made it to the National Heroes Council proposed name, where he will be feted for influencing midfield performance twice during the highly contested match.
“Alpha is being honoured for his contribution in the Kenyan Football sector and Harambee Stars. He received the man of the match award for influencing midfield performance twice,” the report read.
Likewise, the National Heroes Council has proposed Nicodemus Kimathi Musau, who is the Harambee Stars team manager. He is also Harambee Stars Data analyst and will be honoured for his integration of technology and sports science supporting the team’s historic run to the quarter finals for the 2024 CHAN
“Nicodemus is being honoured for his contribution in the Kenyan Football Sector and Harambee Stars. He is the Team Manager and Data Analyst for Harambee Stars. He drove the integration of technology and sports science supporting the teams historic run to the quarter finals for 2024 CHAN,” read the document in part.
