Govt issues update ahead of 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui

With exactly two months to go until this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, State House Director of Coordinations Bonnie Musambi was on the ground in Kitui County on Thursday, July 31, 2025, overseeing key infrastructure projects set to host the national event.
While sharing images on the progress so far, the State House director of coordination confirmed that so far the progress is great, describing it as of high quality and that it has been done at an impressive speed.
“Today, I had the honour of joining the inspection team at the ongoing construction of ITHOOKWE STADIUM in Kitui Central Constituency. The progress is nothing short of phenomenal—top-tier quality delivered with impressive speed,” Musambi stated.
Likewise, he highlighted that the historic celebrations will be a game-changer for Kitui as a region.
“As things stand, the 2025 MASHUJAA DAY celebrations will be truly historic—a game-changer for our region! But that’s not all,” Musambi noted.
On the other hand, according to Musambi, the transformation of Kitui ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebration extends to the hospitality sector, adding that the Kitui State Lodge is benefiting hugely from the upcoming national event.

“The transformation continues with the construction of the KITUI STATE LODGE and the upgrading of ITHOOKWE AIRSTRIP—firm signs of a government that means business for the people of Kitui. Kitui is rising. And this time, we’re rising for goo,” Musambi said.
CS Raymond visits Kitui
The recent updates by the State House Director of Coordinations Bonnie Musambi, comes a month after Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo paid a visit to Kitui.
According to reports by the government, the Ithookwe stadium, which will hold up to 10,000 people, is one of several legacy projects being fast-tracked to support the event and stimulate regional development.
Omollo, during his visit, reviewed a number of road improvement works across Kitui County as part of the current infrastructure uplift by the government.
“These three major projects – the stadium, the mini State Lodge, and the airstrip – are not just for Mashujaa Day; they are investments in the long-term growth and visibility of Kitui County,” the PS stated.
According to the PS, the infrastructure uplift in Kitui binds it to the government’s pledge to equitable development across all regions.
