More than 50 families have been rendered homeless after a group of reportedly hired goons evicted them from a 100-acre Konyit farm in Ainabkoi Sub County Uasin Gishu County.

The armed goons ordered the families to vacate the farm saying they were acting on orders from the alleged multi-million-shilling property owner.

Alice Tebelo, one of the displaced victims recounted how they were flushed out of their houses by the goons.

“I did not manage to salvage any item from the house including my poultry and my children’s education certificates, I have lived here for the past 39 years with my family we tried to call the police for help but they did not turn up and my family and I have nowhere to go now,” cried Tebelo.

Mzee John Kangiro, a father of seven condemned the manner in which the eviction exercise was carried out saying they were not consulted and had stayed on the farm for more than 50 years without any problem.

“Where do they expect me to go with my grown-up children who were born and bred,” posed Kangiro.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara who confirmed the incident has promised to liaise with the relevant national government department with a view to addressing the matter which he described as thorny in the region.

“We are investigating the matter and the necessary action will be taken by the relevant government agencies,” said Kihara.
