Gloria Orobwa drama: MP Lesuuda decries Parliament’s double standards

Samburu West Member of Parliament (MP) Naisula Lesuuda has accused Parliament of hypocrisy in its handling of nominated Senator Gloria Orobwa’s defiance against her party, warning against the selective application of the law.
In a statement on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Lesuuda said that while Orobwa’s actions may have gone against her sponsoring party, similar cases had been witnessed in the last Parliament, yet the affected legislators served full terms without facing disciplinary action.
“Gloria Orobwa may have defied her party, but let’s not be hypocritical. Many nominated senators in the last Parliament openly went against the parties that nominated them, opposing then-President Uhuru Kenyatta and his policies, yet they still served full terms.”
She cautioned leaders against applying double standards, depending on which side of the political divide they stand on, arguing that fairness must prevail at all times.
“Two wrongs don’t make a right. What’s good for the goose must always be good for the gander, regardless of which side one is on. Tuwache selective amnesia,” she added.
Lesuuda further called on Parliament to uphold the law consistently, without bias or political convenience. “If it’s about the law, then read it and follow it regardless,” she stressed.

Orwoba being manhandled
This comes a day after Orwoba’s vehicle was towed away after she used it to block the Senate gate.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, shortly after she was denied access to the Senate, despite citing a court order that she claimed temporarily reinstated her to her position.
Orwoba was seen attempting to prevent the tow truck from taking her vehicle, struggling to dismantle the chains securing it, but her efforts proved futile.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale attempted to intervene and calm the situation, although his efforts were unsuccessful.
Orwoba continued to push back against the enforcement team as they towed away her white Land Cruiser Prado, but the standoff ended unsuccessfully.
The confrontation ended with three female police officers manhandling her and escorting her away from the scene.
Earlier, she had staged a protest at the Senate gate, demanding entry into the chambers.
Orwoba described the Senate sitting discussing the Kericho Governor’s impeachment as illegal, arguing that Consolata Wakwabubi, who was recently sworn in to replace her, was a stranger in the House.
She insisted that Wakwabubi’s swearing-in was unlawful and therefore invalidated the proceedings.
“As long as the lady called Consolata Wakwabubi is sitting in the Senate even now, that sitting is illegal. That is a stranger in the flow of the house; there is no impeachment that is going on with a stranger in the flow of the house.”
