Gideon Moi mourns Chief Kadhi Abdulhalim, hails him as man of wisdom
By Ascah Mwango, July 10, 2025KANU Chairman Gideon Moi has mourned the late Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Athman Abdulhalim Hussein, describing him as a man of deep faith, rare wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the growth of the Muslim faith.
In a statement shared via his X account on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Moi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and Muslim community.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Chief Kadhi Athman Abdulhalim Hussein. A man of deep faith and rare wisdom, Sheikh Abdulhalim was a spiritual leader whose devotion to the growth of the Muslim faith and the nurturing of moral values profoundly impacted countless lives across the country,” Moi said.
“May the Almighty Allah (SWT) grant him Jannatul Firdaus and comfort those left behind with peace and strength during this difficult time.”
The late Sheikh Abdulhalim passed away on the morning of July 10, 2025.
Outpouring tributes
President William Ruto, in his tribute, said the Chief Kadhi had devoted his life to serving humanity and leading the Muslim faithful with humility and wisdom.
“We join the Muslim community in mourning the passing of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein,” Ruto said.
“We pray that Allah brings comfort to his family and the entire Muslim community at this time of sorrow,” he noted.
“Sheikh Abdulhalim devoted his life to the service of humanity and led the Muslim faithful with unwavering dedication, humility and wisdom. He will be remembered as a great Islamic scholar who was committed to justice.”
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also paid tribute, recalling Sheikh Abdulhalim’s steadfast leadership, humility, and courage.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our Muslim brothers and sisters and with the family of the Chief Kadhi of Kenya, Sheikh Abdulhalim Hussein, who passed away early this morning. Sheikh Abdulhalim will be remembered for his steadfast leadership of the Muslim community, his humility, wisdom, and courage,” Wetang’ula stated.
Sheikh Abdulhalim was appointed Kenya’s Chief Kadhi in July 2023, following a competitive recruitment process led by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). He was selected from five shortlisted candidates after a vacancy was declared in April 2023.

His appointment came after the retirement of Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar, who had served for 12 years and reached the mandatory retirement age of 60.
